The Lagotto Romagnolo is a rare breed and it is our commitment to make sure that each of our puppies will be placed in the best possible homes. While we take every precaution to make sure that we incorporate proper and ethical breeding standards, each prospective owner needs to know that there is no perfect dog and a breeder should be willing to discuss the positive points as well as the negative.
Just a word of caution about the Lagotto Romagnolo. The Lagotto has a limited gene pool. The Lagotto Romagnolo comes with its fine qualities as well as some that are difficult to genetically control. Breeders are working to improve hips, and are tracking cases of a neurological deficit called, Cerebral Anomaly. In fact, Finland has just developed a genetics test, which should help isolate this gene, so breeders can hopefully eradicate CA in all future litters. CA is however rare, and more information will be made available over time. There is no history of either genetic defect in our dogs.
Our dogs were imported from a wonderful breeder in the Netherlands, where they have bred quality lines with quality lines. Romakome Kennel has produced some of the best Lagotto Romagnolo in Europe, and we are proud to bring this line to the United States. Our commitment and goal is to continue a tradition of producing quality dogs. As breeders, we can advise you about our dogs. Our data is formed after thorough studying, observing and knowledgeable experience.
All our puppies are placed with a written contract. A pet is expected to be neutered/spayed. A show or breed prospect puppy is the same as a pet puppy except it has been evaluated as having the future potential to carry on the breed in structure, type and temperament. This is also determined through future showing at various rare breed dog shows, and health testing.
Our puppies are placed in homes to be raised with families and not in kennels. We require that our puppies for their life-time in that the dog cannot be resold, transferred ownership, placed or given away. We will always take our dogs back at any age. This eliminates our dogs from ending up in shelters or puppy mills.
Choosing a Lagotto Romagnolo is a rewarding experience. Our commitment to you is to be there as a resource, offer a support system, and answer any questions you may have. We will give you a puppy starter kit, and a list of other resources for nutrition, training and general care. As the ownership of the Lagotto is long term, so is our commitment to you.
