Our kennel name, Montagna del Mare even means "mountain and sea" in Italian. We are the home of the Pacific Northwest Lagotto Romagnolo, and are committed to breeding the best quality dogs that we can. We believe that a healthy lifestyle, good diet and regular training and exercise are just some of the essentials of raising dogs. The Lagotto Romagnolo is a very social dog, and will not thrive unless it gets regular attention from its owner. In fact the Lagotto demands it! The Lagotto Romagnolo is an ancient breed dating back to approximately the 1400s. Its original purpose was a water fowl retrieving dog, and is believed to be an ancestor to which all the water dogs descend. The Lagotto Romagnolo is a small-medium sized dog with a thick and woolly coat. The Lagotto is a non-shedding dog, and some with allergies, have had good luck in owning a Lagotto. They have a wonderful nose and have been used for search and rescue work, drug dogs, and of course, truffle hunting, which is what they are known for in Italy. Some fanciers are bringing back the hunting instinct and using for that original purpose as well.
